The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam and the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina are set to sign a cooperation agreement during NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s official visit to the Latin American nation, aiming to intensify parliamentary relations and the countries’ comprehensive partnership at large, said head of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha.

Chairman Hue and a high-ranking NA delegation of the NA arrived at Ministro Pistarini International Airport in Buenos Aires on April 23 afternoon (local time), beginning an official visit to Argentina at the invitation of President of the Chamber of Deputies Cecilia Moreau, according to VNA.

The trip, held amid the 50th founding anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic ties (October 25, 1973 – 2023), aims to intensify the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Argentina, as well as other Latin American nations.

It looks to affirm that Argentina is one of the leading partners of Vietnam in Latin America and to promote the possibility of launching negotiations on a free trade agreement between the Southeast Asian country and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).

During previous discussions and meetings, leaders of both countries expressed their wish to further bolster bilateral cooperation.

The Vietnamese side underscored that it attaches importance to its long-standing friendship and comprehensive partnership with Argentina, highlighting the hope to develop the partnership for the sake of the two peoples and for peace, stability, and development in their respective regions and the world at large.

Meanwhile, Argentina also highly valued Vietnam’s growing role and stature in the regional and international arenas, voicing its willingness to lift the comprehensive partnership to a new level.

Over the past years, relations between the two legislative bodies have also been flourishing as seen in mutual visits and meetings at multilateral parliamentary forums.

On the basis of the traditional friendship, Chairman Hue’s visit is expected to elevate and further enhance parliamentary cooperation.

Talking to the press prior to the visit, head of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha noted the two sides will discuss measures for promoting the comprehensive partnership, especially in the fields Argentina is strong at such as agriculture, the industry serving agricultural production, renewable energy, and the material industry.

They will sign a cooperation deal to strengthen ties between the two parliaments, thus contributing to the comprehensive partnership, he said.

Ha went on to say that the NA Chairman will also deliver a policy speech at the Argentinan Foreign Ministry. The speech will provide information about Vietnam’s foreign policy and the policy towards Latin America in general and Argentina in particular.

Argentinian Ambassador to Vietnam Luis Pablo Maria Beltramino told the press that his country has high expectations on the visit and considers this as a milestone in the reinforcement of bilateral diplomatic links.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, President of the Honourable Senate of the Argentine Nation and Vice President of the country, in Buenos Aires on April 24 afternoon.

The two sides agreed to maintain close cooperation and coordination and share experience in legislative work regarding issues such as assisting the poor, social welfare, and national development, thereby supporting each other to overcome current global difficulties and challenges.

They said that on the basis of fine political relations, the relationship between the two legislatures has also made progress and contributed importantly to strengthening the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership.
