Overseas Vietnamese Commemorate Lunar New Year Festival in Kuala Lumpur

The opening event on January 27 was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia, Dinh Ngoc Linh and his wife, Mohamed Amin – Senior Director in charge of events and domestic tourism in Malaysia, Mohamad Shahrir – Senior Deputy Director of the ASEAN region under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, and several representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysian businesses, and overseas Vietnamese.

Following the lion dance performance to kick off the festival, Tran Thi Chang, President of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, gave a speech expressing her delight at the participation of overseas Vietnamese in the event. She highlighted that the Lunar New Year is the most significant traditional festival for Vietnamese people to reflect on the past and convey good wishes for the future.

She emphasized her commitment to continue accompanying and supporting overseas Vietnamese in building a strong community and strengthening the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship.

Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh highly appreciated the Association’s contributions to the Vietnamese community in the area, as it helps unite the community and preserve Vietnamese cultural identity.

The Ambassador hopes that the 2024 Vietnamese Tet Festival will evoke a sense of nostalgia for overseas Vietnamese living far from their homeland and provide a joyful end to the year.

He also hopes that the Vietnamese community in Malaysia will continue to positively contribute to the development of both countries and serve as a bridge to enhance the Vietnam-Malaysian relationship.

He particularly emphasized the need for overseas Vietnamese to preserve the Vietnamese language, cultural identity, and the good traditions of the Vietnamese people.

Special events like the Vietnamese Tet Festival make a significant contribution to promoting the strong friendship between the two countries and facilitating people-to-people exchanges.

Mohamed Amin further shared that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia is fully committed to supporting the establishment of twin city models, namely Melaka-Hoi An and Langkawi-Phu Quoc, in the future.

Guests attending the festival can sample various traditional Vietnamese food dishes such as banh chung, banh tet, mut, pickled onions, and coffee. They can also explore traditional ao dai stalls and Tet flower markets.

The community aims to introduce the beauty of the Vietnamese traditional Tet holiday to Malaysian and international friends.

The 2024 Vietnamese Tet Festival program features a range of exciting Tet activities, including “Wrapping banh chung to celebrate Vietnamese Tet,” “Vietnamese Tet ao dai costumes,” and traditional art and cultural exchanges.
